Homemade Oatmeal Recipe for Dogs
Isabel recently shared with us an easy recipe she uses to feed her black lab, Nina, and graciously agreed to share it with all of our readers.
BASE:
1 cup cooked oatmeal (6g protein)
1 cup cooked oatmeal (6g protein)
VEGGIES:
1/2 cup pulp and two tablespoons juice left over from my homemade vegetable juice (some or all of the following: beet, carrot, celery, cucumber, fennel, broccoli, cilantro, parsley, kale, chard, bok choy, spinach, daikon)
EXTRA PROTEIN:
1/2 cup pulp and two tablespoons juice left over from my homemade vegetable juice (some or all of the following: beet, carrot, celery, cucumber, fennel, broccoli, cilantro, parsley, kale, chard, bok choy, spinach, daikon)
EXTRA PROTEIN:
4 tbsp hempseed (14g protein)
1.5 tbsp pumpkin seed powder (10g protein)
1 tbsp ground flax (1g protein)
FRUIT:
1 banana or 6 strawberry tops or 1/8 cup frozen blueberries
1/8 apple
LIQUID:
1/4 c water
1/4 c water
The amounts can be adjusted for different sized dogs. Nina is a young 65 lb lab, and the above proportions work well for her. Yours can be slightly different, depending on the size and activity level of your dog. You can also play around with vegetables and fruits to see what flavour your dog likes best.
To make this a nutritionally complete meal, you can supplement the oatmeal recipe with VegeDog. You would would add 2 4/5 tsp (just under 1 tbsp) for a 65 lb dog. For correct amounts for dogs of other sizes, please see here.
